MICHAEL Turner faces a late fitness test on a calf problem ahead of Southend United’s clash at Rochdale tomorrow.

Turner went off with a calf problem midway through the first half against Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

And Shrimpers coach Ricky Duncan is unsure whether or not the experienced defender will be fit enough to figure at Spotland.

“We’re not too sure if Michael is going to be available for the game or not at this stage,” said Duncan.

“We will have to see how he is and if he trains today but he’s not been ruled out at the moment.”

Turner missed the first three months of the season with a hamstring problem and will be keen to avoid another spell on the sidelines.

However, midfielder Anthony Wordsworth remains out of action with a calf injury.

And Duncan does not expect him to recover in time to face Rochdale this weekend.

“Anthony didn’t train yesterday,” confirmed Duncan.

“I don’t think he’s going to be available for the game on Saturday.”

Blues will also be without long-term absentee Rob Kiernan who has been out since August with knee problems.

Midfielder Josh Wright is also still sidelined with a hamstring problem he picked up against Shrewsbury Town at the end of December.
