SOUTHEND United’s match at Rochdale has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Shrimpers had been preparing for the game with Ricky Duncan and Kevin Maher in charge following the dismissal of Phil Brown as manager.
But referee Eddie Ilderton explained there was no way the game took have taken place.
“We had to wait for the covers to come off and once they did we saw it was a quagmire of a pitch,” said Ilderton.
“It was like quick-sand and unfortunately it was just unplayable.
“We’re all frustrated because it’s a Saturday afternoon and we want a game of football.
“We’ve prepared all week for this but the covers were on and what else could have been done?”
A new date for the game has yet to be confirmed.
