BLUES boss Chris Powell felt his side's 1-0 win at Peterborough United was marred by a serious looking injury to John White.

The Shrimpers centre-back was carried off at the start of the second half after suffering what appeared to be an ankle injury.

And Powell remains worried by White's setback.

“The win is tinged with sadness really because of John’s injury,” said Powell.

“He’s a player I like. I like how he is and I like how he trains too.

“But he lunged to make a last ditch challenge and if he had made contact it could have been a sending off.

“I’m not sure if he got his foot stuck in the turf but I think it’s his ankle he’s injured and I’m a little bit worried.

“I just hope he’s OK and it’s not anything long-term.”

White was replaced by Anton Ferdinand as the Shrimpers dug deep to secure their first away win since October.

And Powell was pleased to send the Blues’ travelling contingent of almost 800 fans back home feeling happy.

“Our support was fantastic,” said Powell.

“Before the game I could hear the banging of a drum and I thought it was the Peterborough fans.

“Don’t have a go at me Southend fans but when we came out I was pleasantly surprised it was ours.

"They were like that the whole game and they saw us through.”
