MICHAEL Kightly is determined to get Southend United back among the goals at Blackpool tomorrow.

The Shrimpers have failed to score in their last three outings and have been held to successive goalless draws.

But Kightly is keen for the barren run to end.

“Scoring goals is the hardest part of football and we all want to start chipping in again,” said the Blues winger.

“Being entirely honest the pitch does make it difficult to carve open defences when we’re at home but the pitch at Rochdale was the best we’ve played on in quite some time.

“We want to be creating more and scoring more and we want that to happen against Blackpool because we want to go there and get the three points.”

Kightly has started the Shrimpers’ last two games after recovering from a slight hamstring injury which forced him out of the team.

And the Basildon born 32-year-old felt back to his best against Rochdale on Tuesday.

“I felt really good again fitness wise against Rochdale and I’ll be looking to build on that now,” said Kightly.

“It would be great if I could get a goal or assist to help the team at the weekend but making sure we get the three points is what matters most.”

But, despite the lack of goals, Kightly has been impressed by Blues’ recent form.

“Since the new manager has come in we’ve been beaten once in eight games and I think we’ve looked really solid,” said Kightly.

“It’s been really encouraging and we want to keep that going for the rest of the season so we can pick up as many points as possible and finish as high up the League table as possible.”

The Shrimpers will be making the long trip to Bloomfield Road sitting 13th in the standings.

But Kightly is keen to improve that position.

“Being honest the play-offs look a step too far at the moment but we have 10 games left and we’ll be looking to win every single one of them,” said winger.

“If we can get a run going then who knows what can happen.

“But there’s no point looking too far ahead and all we are thinking about at the moment is playing Blackpool.

“They are just below us in the table and had a good win in the week so we are expecting a real test.

“But we’re confident because of our recent form and results and we want to keep the good results going.”
