SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell has been linked with a coaching role for England - but the club have yet to be approached by the Football Association.

The FA is considering making it mandatory for all England teams to have an ethnic minority coach within their set up.

And Powell - who was with England boss Gareth Southgate at Crystal Palace at the start of his playing career - is believed to have been earmarked for a role.

But Blues have received no kind of request to speak to the 48-year-old.

A club spokesman said: “We have not been approached and this is the first we have heard about this possibility.”

Powell has been in charge of Blues since late January.
