SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell has set his sights on toppling another of League One’s top teams at Roots Hall this weekend.

The Shrimpers host fourth placed Rotherham United tomorrow and Powell is keen to add the Millers to the list of high-flying teams his side have beaten since arrival.

“It’s a good game for us and we like it when we play against teams in the upper reaches of the table because it brings the best out of us,” said Powell.

“Rotherham will be trying to take care of their own situation but we’re looking forward to what is a big game and we’ve done well against the top teams.

“We’ve played Wigan, Scunthorpe and Portsmouth and they’ve all gone well.

“That was because we started at a good pace and intensity.

“We were aggressive with and without the ball and we will have to do that again tomorrow if we are to get the three points.”

However, Powell will be forced to change things around this weekend as first choice right-back Jason Demetriou is away on international duty with Cyprus.

But the Blues boss has already decided who will replace him.

“I know who is going to play because I’ve always envisaged what will happen in international week,” said Powell.

“It’s a shame because Jason has been a key performer but he’s playing for his country and that’s great for any player.

“We have to get on with it and it creates an opportunity for somebody else to come in and show what they can.”

Elvis Bwomono could return at right-back in place of Demetriou or Powell could opt to move John White into the role.

That would see Anton Ferdinand being recalled at the centre-back after recovering from the illness which forced to miss Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool.

“Anton is back training,” said Powell.

“He was ill last weekend and it affected some other players in the early part of this week but they’re all back now.”

Blues will again be without Rob Kiernan tomorrow with the defender now unlikely to figure this season.
