SIX Blues legends will be reunited to raise funds for Havens Hospices.

Former striker Freddy Eastwood, defender Adam Barrett, midfielder Kevin Maher, manager Steve Tilson, winger Mark Gower and goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan all combined to win the League One title in 2006.

Between them the group were involved in more than 2,000 matches for Blues and won back to back promotions.

And the captain of that side Kevin Maher cannot wait to be back with his former team-mates on Friday May 4 at the Arlington Ballroom.

“It was a special time for all of us so it’s going to be great to reminisce about it all with the other lads again,” said Maher, who made more than 450 appearances for the club.

“It’s scary to think how long ago it was now but it will be brilliant having some fans there, raising money for a good cause and looking back on some brilliant memories.”

Joining Maher, will be popular ex defender Barrett who cannot wait for the evening to get underway.

“It’s going to be lovely to see some old team-mates and look back on what was a great time for the club and for me personally too,” said Barrett.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

Barrett had two spells with Blues and so did star striker Eastwood whose goals fired Tilson’s team to glory.

Eastwood scored 49 goals in the space of just two seasons and is excited to be looking back at his time at Roots Hall.

“I loved my time at the club and I’m sure this evening is going to bring back a lot of good memories,” said Eastwood.

“We had so many really great times so it was a really special time.”

And former Blues boss Steve Tilson echoed those sentiments.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again and talking through old times,” said Tilson.

“I’m still proud of what we all achieved together.”

The event - which has been organised by Echosport's Chris Phillips and the club - is being staged to raise funds for Havens Hospices.

And Judy Grocott, Events Manager at Havens Hospices said: “I’d like to thank Chris and Southend United for putting on this event to raise funds for the new Fair Havens Hospice.

"The current Fair Havens has served us well over the last 35 years but it is no longer fit for purpose – it is too small to care for the number of patients who need specialist care.

"A new hospice will mean we will be able to care for twice as many patients, offer more treatments and support more families, but we can only do this with the help of our supporters like Chris, who fundraise their way to secure the future of modern hospice care in South East Essex.”

The event, which is being sponsored by Trade Price Cars, is priced at £42.50 + VAT which includes a welcome drink and an extensive buffet.

Limited VIP packages are also available priced £60 + VAT. To book contact 01702 304147 or email commercial@southend-united.co.uk.
