SIMON Cox is keen to stay at Southend United.
The striker’s current deal expires this summer.
But Cox, who has been with the Shrimpers for the past two seasons, is hoping to remain at Roots Hall.
“I want to stay at Southend more than I want to leave,” said Cox.
“I want to stay, I like living in the area and I’m really enjoying it here.
“I’ve spoken to the manager and he wants to keep me, but it’s now just a case of waiting to see what package is put together by the chairman.
“But my preferred option would definitely be staying here, especially when you look at how well we ended the season with the new manager.”
Cox has scored 26 goals in 97 appearances for Blues.
