SOUTHEND United’s makeshift striker Bilel Mohsni has been hit by a virus ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Northampton Town.

The Frenchman had been expected to lead the attack in the absence of the suspended Liam Dickinson and injured Neil Harris.

But he now faces a fight to be fit.

“Bilel is suffering from the same bug Glenn Morris and Ryan Hall had last week and he didn’t train yesterday because of it,” confirmed Blues boss Paul Sturrock.

“It’s not ideal but Bilel being Bilel I’m sure he’ll play and we’re starting to see the real him again.

“There’s a freshness about him now that Ramadan has finished and his energy levels will soon be back to normal.

“He can start to eat properly again and that will help him because his levels had been waning in the last few weeks and that’s why we put him on the bench.”

However, if he does recover from the virus, Mohsni should be restored to the starting line-up with Blair Sturrock his most likely strike partner.

Ryan Hall is also expected to return in place of the injured Lee Sawyer.

But Blues are unlikely to alter their back four and that will see the in-form Luke Prosser continuing at left-back.

The 23-year-old has been produced a series of consistent performances already this season.

And, having now fuly recovered from a slight thigh problem, he is hoping for more of the same against the Cobblers.

“After missing the Burton match I was really pleased the manager put me straight back in the team and the aim is to keep on playing well, starting with Northampton,” said Prosser.

“I know I still have plenty to learn about playing there but I’m enjoying being there and hopefully we can make it three wins in a row this weekend.”
