DAVID Martin wants to fire Southend United back in to the race for automatic promotion with a win at Burton Albion tomorrow.

Martin looks set to be handed a recall on the left wing at the Pirelli Stadium.

And he is determined to help Blues get back to winning ways after two successive defeats.

“We need six points from the two games we have in three days and it’s a massive match for us at Burton,” said Martin, 26.

“Things haven’t gone so well for us just recently and none of us really know why.

“But all the players have worked too hard and done too well to just go and throw it all away at this stage of the season.

“We therefore want to get the win at Burton and hopefully I’ll get to play as well.”

Martin was named among the substitutes for last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Morecambe.

However, with Ryan Hall breaching the club’s code of conduct last weekend and Martin impressing in a friendly at Braintree Town, the winger is expected to be back in the team.

“Hopefully I showed the gaffer what I can do and I can get back in to his thinking,” said Martin.

“We are still think that automatic promotion is possible and that’s what we’re aiming for.”
