SOUTHEND United striker Liam Dickinson is keen to play a part in another promotion party at Wembley — despite currently being sidelined with a broken ankle.

The 26-year-old forward will be again watching from the stands when Blues face Crewe Alexandra in the second leg of their play-off semi-final at Roots Hall tomorrow night.

But Dickinson is desperate for his side to triumph and then also succeed at the home of English football, just like he did with Stockport back in 2008.

“Going up with Stockport and scoring the third goal in the final was up there with anything else in my whole career and I’d love the boys here to experience that this season,” said Dickinson.

“Getting to Wembley in itself is a dream come true but to win there to get promotion is a special feeling and it doesn’t get much better that.

“Of course, I’d be gutted to have to miss out on the final if we get there but I’ve been frustrated to miss all the games I have done.

“However, I’ve still made sure I’ve played a part in and around the dressing room by encouraging the rest of the lads and I really help they can go on to get promotion now.

“I will be doing that again in the build up to the Crewe game. And I’ll think we’ll win because we have too much for them, in my opinion.”

Dickinson bagged 12 goals in 33 starts to lead Blues’ scoring charts before breaking his ankle during the 0-0 draw against Crawley Town in early March.

The forward was stretchered off after entering the action as a second half substitute.

And he has hated having to watch matches from the stands.

“I’m not very good at watching games and not being able to play,” said Dickinson.

“I want to be out there with the rest of the lads but I’m just going to have to wait until it’s healed.

“I knew the injury was serious as soon as it happened because I heard a crack and I’m just going to have to remain patient, somehow!”

Dickinson’s rehabilition will continue throughout the summer and he expects to be back running within the next six weeks.

“I can’t wait to be jogging again because I’m sick of being stuck on an exercise bike,” said Dickinson.

“It will be a big step in the right direction for me and hopefully we will have got promotion by then.”
