CAMERON Belford is waiting to discover if he has a future at Southend United.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who ended the season on loan at Blues from Bury, is keen to remain at Roots Hall on a permanent basis.

But two other clubs have now joined the race for his signature.

And Belford has yet to hear back from Southend boss Paul Sturrock.

“I sat down with the manager last week and told him I wanted to stay at the club and he said he was interested in keeping me but that he had a few issues to think about,” said Belford.

“I think they’re financial things and it’s just a case of waiting for him to get back to me now.

“If an offer does come in then staying at Southend would be one of first options. I really enjoyed my time on loan and the goalkeeping coach, Terry Mason, was fantastic to work with.

“I also enjoyed working with the manager but a couple of other clubs have been in touch with me now.

“It’s an uncertain time and I can’t really look forward to next season just yet because I don’t know where I’m going to be.

“But I’m going on holiday in a couple of weeks and ideally everything can be sorted out by then because then I would really be able to relax a bit more.”

Belford kept eight clean sheets in 15 games during his spell with Blues.

And he should be available on a free transfer this summer, despite still having a year left on his current Bury contract.

“The manager there has told me I can go for nothing and, if he sticks to his word, I’ll be on a free transfer which I think will help me,” said Belford.

“It’s been made clear I’m not wanted at Bury and to be honest I don’t want to be there either so hopefully something can be sorted and I’ll get an offer from Southend.”
