Injury-hit Southend United in transfer embargo
2:06pm Thursday 20th September 2012 in Blues By Chris Phillips
Paul Sturrock - short of options
SOUTHEND United are currently under a transfer embargo, the Echo understands.
Blues boss Paul Sturrock could have just 13 fit senior players for Saturday’s League Two clash against Exeter City at Roots Hall .
And, as things stand at the moment, the Scotsman will not be able to strengthen his depleted squad before taking on the Grecians.
“Southend have an embargo in place at the moment and have had for a little while now which is why no players have been coming in to the club just recently,” said a source close to the club.
“Britt Assombalonga’s loan was able to be extended because the original loan was made when the club were not under an embargo.
“But for the last few weeks it has not been possible to complete transfers and people will need to be paid off before any new signings can be made.
“The injury situation hasn’t helped either but it’s definitely why Southend have not been able to bring people in.”
Blues will need to pay outstanding debts to come out of the embargo and make new signings, and that will come as a blow to Sturrock.
Neil Harris is definitely out with a knee problem and Barry Corr is not yet ready to return from his long-term knee injury.

I don't know the rules regarding loan players if under an embargo so the fact we have bought Belford in on loan may make this particular rumour wrong.
So why has it taken this long to come out?
dbfromrayleigh says... Ron Martin, pay up or get out!!!
Unfortunately unless there is someone out there that has a few million to throw at it, "Better the devil you know". RM isn't going to just chuck it in...well not until it is decided that the "New Stadium" is no longer viable. Then what happens? Southend go bust?
Unless dbfromrayleigh you know that person with a few million to throw away...sorry I meant "invest" in SUFC.

How do club's who get on average half our attendances, survive and in a lot of cases thrive?
I'm sure I am speaking on behalf of the majority of SUFC fans.
Very, very frustrating.

Hopefully the embargo is only a rumour, especially as the new recruits to the Blues are probably not as good as those that have "left"........and why oh why was "Mr S'end Utd", Adam Barrett "allowed" to leave !

HMRC will be knocking on the door soon for VAT and Tax payments and it is hard to see where the finance is coming from, no revenue coming in from May to July but the fixed costs still need to be paid weekly / monthly.
So far the gates we get reflect the type of football we are playing,It would seem the money received for the sale of Ferdinand hasn't paid of the debt and yes I agree ship out Moshni and Hall, Ron Martin should eat humble pie and look to the consortium that were interested in the Blues a little while back too see if a partnership could be a way out, if not it will be only a matter of time before the doors and gates will be closed at Roots Hall...shame

Chief Exe quit last season.
Maybe the consortium will come back into it or Sainsbury's to take over club 100%

How can the likes of Col U (although pleasingly struggling at present) and Leyton Orient, two clubs on our doorstep with on average, half the support Blues get, remain at a higher level and seemingly solvent?
It is surely down to management t board level.

It could be a great thing they do for the town and supporters, by gifting the legacy of a new stadium in return for their development themsleves of the RH site - say a 999 year lease at a peppercorn ?
The crunch may come when the deadline for the taking up of acquisitions of other related properties, soon arises.
A controlled Receivership might be a far better option, than Administration or Winding-Up, for both club and creditors, surely.
