Gary Lockett steps down as Southend United's chief executive

Gary Lockett - stepped down Gary Lockett - stepped down

GARY Lockett is to step down as Southend United’s chief executive, the Echo can reveal.

Lockett has been in the role at Roots Hall for the past seven months.

But he is now expected to return to being a non-executive director.

The reasons for Lockett’s departure have not yet been revealed.

However, his decision to step down will soon be confirmed in a club statement.

Lockett, who is a lifelong fan of Blues, replaced Tara Brady in March to work alongside chairman Ron Martin .

But his departure comes as another blow for Southend after the Echo revealed last week that the club were also under a transfer embargo.

I wonder why? Perhaps he knows the true state of the club's finances. It is time for a full and frank statement from Ron Martin, preferably verified by the club's auditors, as to what is gong on.

RM does seem to lose a few Chief Executives & one wonders if they maybe want to manage the finances in one way & RM opts for a different way. Finances may be worse than is publicly known. Could it be that possibly a realisation that the stadium building plan is probably lost or Sainsbury's maybe want to start their project at Roots Hall soon that has pushed Mr Lockett to abandon ship? Likely that the club put so much finance into last year's failed bid to get out of League 2, given the size of last year's playing squad, that the funds have got worse since.

Not good, Why does RM bother to app a CEO when he wants to run the show 100%. Come on Sainsbury's buy him out and get this club moving in the right direction.
