Southend United's Freddy Eastwood out to show his son who is the daddy!

Freddy Eastwood - gunning for more goals Freddy Eastwood - gunning for more goals

FREDDY Eastwood is eager to regain the bragging rights in his family by firing Southend United to victory against struggling Barnet at Roots Hall tomorrow.

Eastwood’s 10-year-old son, Freddy-John, scored twice for Blues’ under 12 side against Luton Town last weekend.

And ever since then the budding striker has ribbing his father about his own superior strike-rate.

“At the moment my son has the bragging rights in our family because he scored two last week and I’ve only scored one so far this season,” said Eastwood.

“I’m going to have to try and score this weekend to keep him quiet but it’s been great to see him doing well.

“He was actually playing up an age group on Sunday having done well against players of his own age.

“But it didn’t seem to be a problem for him because he came on and scored two goals to help his team get a draw so now the pressure is back on me.”

Eastwood missed the start of current campaign with a calf problem but made his first start of the season against Burton Albion on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Blues sunk to an undeserved 1-0 defeat after being reduced to 10 men.

And he is now determined to get Southend back on track with victory over a Barnet team who have yet to win this season.

“We’re all confident of winning tomorrow but we know we will have to play well to win,” said Eastwood.

“We’re certainly taking nothing for granted because Barnet have some good players and we will be making sure we approach the game in the right way.”

Must say the stick I've heard aimed at Freddy because of his Gypsy roots is disgraceful - a Col U game away springs to mind when I happened to be in the Col U end. To be fair he seems to ignore it but I find it amazing how stewards and the police seem to ignore it. Way things are going Freddy could do a better job in midfield than some of em.
