Steve Kavanagh backs Southend United's position in Bilel Mohsni saga
BLUES chief executive Steve Kavanagh has defended the club’ stance on Bilel Mohsni.
The Frenchman was disappointed not to have joined West Ham United in the summer.
But Kavanagh claimed Southend also had to do what was best for the club.
“He does have to understand this is not simply about Bilel Mohsni and it is my job to protect the interests of Southend United,” said Kavanagh.
“Just because he wants to play in a higher league does not mean we should not be properly compensated, and by that I don’t mean the figures being quoted in the last few days!
“Southend did everything they could to get the deal done in the summer, even letting him go on tour, but sometimes these things just don’t happen and it is how you respond to disappointment that is important.
And the Blues’ chief executive added: “But we wish Bilel all the best on loan at Ipswich and hope he focuses on his football and demonstrates the talent he has. “We have worked hard to get him to a club and he now needs to repay that faith.”
