LUKE Prosser will be staying at Southend United next season.
Blues have opted to activate the option of a further year on the defender’s contract.
And that means the 24-year-old will be remaining at Roots Hall.
“We had the option of giving Luke another year and that’s something the management have decided to do,” confirmed a club spokesman.
“Luke is someone who can play in a couple of positions at the back and the management like his attitude and professionalism as well.
“He’s someone who has really improved in the last couple of seasons and we look forward to welcoming him back next year.”
Prosser joins Barry Corr and Ryan Leonard in committing his future to the club and he will again be hoping to impress when the new campaign kicks off in August.
Prosser has made 48 appearances for Blues since signing on a free transfer after he was released from Port Vale in the summer of 2010.
Prosser played 27 games last season and appeared at left back as well as at the heart of the back four.
Blues are now hoping other players will follow in his footsteps by agreeing to stay and they remain in contract talks with player of the season Mark Phillips, captain Chris Barker and key midfielder Anthony Grant.
Peter Gilbert, Jean-Paul Kalala, Christian Dailly are also in contract negotiations with the club along with striker Freddy Eastwood who ended last season back on loan at Blues from Coventry City.

Sturrock has received some stick in the last few weeks re our youth team and the people he has released but I think he is keeping his cards close to hs chest. As he said at the end of the season in one of the home games programmes " I have a wage structure and need to stick to it"
