WE’VE had a good week training as we look forward to our play-off matches against Stevenage.

We were all hurting after the weekend because we couldn’t produce when it mattered at Morecambe.

But we have a second bite of the cherry now and it’s one we’re desperate to take.

Morecambe was a frustrating afternoon and I opted to make one change to the team with Jack Payne coming in to replace Jake Cassidy who had been unwell.

I’ve seen a few things written about that but Jack had been training exceptionally well and I also thought he had done well when coming off the bench in the last few games.

He helped to change the game at Exeter after his introduction and then also impressed at Bury so I thought he fully deserved to start at the weekend.

He got our goal and played well so I think the change was justified but I only decided to include him after we sent a scout to check out Morecambe’s pitch in the week.

There was no match on but we sent somehow to have a look at the surface and when we heard it was half decent we thought it would be suited to Jack’s style.

People always like to talk about formations and different systems but who knows the players better than the manager who works with the squad day in, day out.

Sometimes we can’t also divulge all of the information when it comes to why a certain team is picked because some of it can be quite personal.

But supporters are always welcome to come and watch any of the training sessions we put on and the gates will always be open for them.

What happened at Morecambe is in the past now though and all we’re thinking about is making sure we beat Stevenage over the two legs.

INJURY DOUBTS THIS WEEKEND

WE have a couple of injury doubts for the game this weekend as both Jerome Binnom-Williams and Myles Weston have picked up knocks.

Jerome reported in with an ankle problem he suffered at home while Myles injured his calf in training on Tuesday.

He had to pull out of the session after about 35 minutes and we will now have to wait and see how he responds to treatment.

CONOR CLIFFORD IS BACK TRAINING

CONOR Clifford is back training with us after his loan spell at Barnet came to an end.

I’m not sure what Conor has on the horizon but he’s available if we need to call on him.

Being honest that’s really only likely to happen in an emergency really because we have a solid group of players to pick from in the midfield.

But where Conor is concerned the decision was made about him quite some time ago now.

MEETING WITH THE CHAIRMAN

I HAD another meeting with the chairman and the chief executive yesterday to talk a few things through.

Contracts came up and it’s all a bit of a balancing act the moment with everything that’s going on.

But we continue to talk to players because it’s important they feel secure going in to these play-off matches.
