STANFORD-LE-HOPE'S Hayley McLean suffered disappointment on her debut appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old 400m hurdler was knocked out in the heats in Glasgow after finishing fourth in 57.80s – a time will down on her personal best of 56.43s set earlier this season.

Matters were made worse for McLean shortly after when track judges announced she had been disqualified for a “hurdle violation”.

McLean and her fellow 400m hurdlers were hit by last-minute schedule changes that did little to help their preparations.

Until the day before the heats, organisers had made the event a three-round competition, but at the last-minute scrapped the semi-finals meaning the heats became a run-off for the final.

The race was a disappointing end to a memorable week for McLean who was competing at her first senior championships.

She attended the opening ceremony and even posed for a selfie with the Queen as she toured the athletes village in Glasgow.
