Essex take on Worcestershire today, knowing that a win will leave them in a good position to gain promotion to Division One of the LV= County Championship.
It will hinge on Hampshire’s result against Glamorgan in Wales.
The club has attempted to identify all the ways that could see Essex playing top division cricket next season (a team gains 16 points for a win, 5 for a draw and 0 for a loss - up to 8 bonus points are available – 5 for batting, 3 for bowling).
If Essex win with full bonus points, Hampshire would need to win their game against Glamorgan to be promoted.
A draw (even with full bonus points) would not be enough; the South Coast side losing out by 1 point.
If Hampshire gain 16 points for a win, regardless of bonus points, it would send them up.
