Essex bowler Reece Topley has confirmed he will join Hampshire at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who made his bow for England in Monday’s T20 win over Australia, taking the wicket of Mitchell Marsh, is now heading for pastures new after agreeing a two-year deal.

And Topley, who also plays for Colchester & East Essex, says he is “extremely sad” to be leaving the club he has played with for more than a decade.

“I am extremely sad to be leaving Essex having played for the County since the age of nine and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in a great dressing room. I would like to publicly thank all the players for their huge support and firm friendships.

“In particular, I must also thank the two first XI coaches: Paul Grayson for the fantastic opportunity he has given me and to Chris Silverwood, who I have great admiration for and enjoyed working with.”

Topley added he was "delighted" to make the move to Hampshire, after speaking to the county's website.

"I am delighted to be joining Hampshire, a club I have admired from a distance for some time. I know I am not the finished article and hope that at 21-years-old, Hampshire can help me develop into a regular international bowler in the coming years.

"I feel the environment at the Ageas Bowl will assist me in being the best I possibly can be and I am tremendously excited for the future at Hampshire."

Topley made his first-class debut in 2011, and went on to take 14 wickets in his first three County Championship matches before impressing in the 2013 Twenty20 competition.

He took 21 wickets at an average of 13.23, earned him a call-up to the England Lions squad for the winter tours to Australia & Sri Lanka.

Topley suffered a stress fracture injury on the tour, which cut short his season in 2014.

This year he has been carefully managed by Essex, while still making valuable contributions, averaging 25.78 with the ball in first-class cricket, taking 125 wickets in total for the county.
