CRICKET: Essex’s Tom Westley helped England claim a comfortable win in the first game of their one-day series against Pakistan A in Dubai yesterday.
Westley bowled eight probing overs of off-spin, claiming two wickets as Pakistan were dismissed for 192 in 47 overs.
This was despite England being without two of their frontline bowlers, with Jamie Overton and Liam Plunkett both injured.
Westley did not have such a great time with the bat, being clean bowled by Mohammad Nawaz from the first ball he faced.
But England skipper James Vince led from the front, top-scoring with 70 from 83 balls while Sam Billings added a restrained unbeaten 35 to steer the Lions home with five wickets and almost nine overs to spare.
Liam Dawson, who was on loan at Essex from Hampshire last season, made 29 in a 43-run fourth-wicket stand with Billings.
The series continues on Friday.
