4:50pm Thursday 2nd June 2011 in Essex Cricket Club By Paul Grayson, Essex Cricket Club coach
IT was great to welcome Scott Styris and Tim Southee to the club this week; I think they will be both be good signings for us.
Scott had a massive impact with us last year and the way we played, and his innings against Surrey at Chelmsford was as good as I’ve ever seen in one-day cricket.
He’s very popular with the lads and with his experience of county cricket, it was vital we got him back again this year.
And we wanted another bowling option, and Tim fit that mould for us.
He’s had a very good 18 months for New Zealand, and we are delighted to have him here.
He’s good up front with the white ball, an excellent death bowler as well, and he can hit the ball down the order.
And with (Lonwabo) Ttotsobe’s departure we now have overseas players spots for the Championship and CB40 competitions.
And we will be talking to both Scott and Tim about who is going to play in those formats.
We can register both players, so hopefully we can get something sorted out with that in the next few days.
