SOUTHEND cricketers will be taking on Essex County Cricket Club in a special match this summer.

Members of Southend on Sea & EMT Cricket Club will face the county side at their Southchurch Park home on Wednesday, July 24.

The match is in aid of Essex player David Masters' benefit year.

"It is a great honour for us to host this game and for the cricket lovers of Southend to be given a chance to watch Essex at close quarters," said SOS&EMT chairman Stuart Leslie.

"It should be a fantastic day for our club, Essex and the watching public."

The match will mark the return of Essex to the ground where they played Southend Cricket Festival matches until 2004, when the event switched to Garon Park.

Masters will spend the morning coaching SOS&EMT's youth players.

The 34-year-old seam bowler will then host a lunch before the match.

SOS&EMT's team will be selected from the club's cricketers, although a few guest players from other clubs in the town will be invited to participate.

Companies or clubs wanting to book a table for the lunch or place an advert in the matchday programme can contact Mr Leslie at wwwsosemtcc.org.uk or sl138@hotmail.co.uk.
