SOUTHEND & EMT skipper Joe Robbins was left feeling frustrated following his side’s Premier Division draw with Chingford.

The visitors made 203/9 in their innings at Southchurch Park before Southend ended on 179/8.

And Robbins was disappointed not to have taken more from the club’s first ever top flight game at home.

“On reflection we are disappointed we didn’t get the win,” said Robbins.

“We bowled and fielded pretty well throughout, especially up front keeping them under two an over for the first 40.

“Maybe 203 was 30 more than we’d have liked but I felt confident we could chase it down.

“But unfortunately we never really got going with the bat, “We couldn’t quite form that substantial partnership and it was only really down to the tail that we got to 179.

“But nine points isn’t a bad return all in all.”

Southend elected to field first after winning the toss and started strongly with the ball, reducing Chingford to 14/2 inside the first seven overs of the game.

The visitors reached 85/3 at the 40 over mark before a late rally saw them end on 203/9.

In reply, Southend started their innings in sluggish fashion and were reduced to 93/6 before the tail batted strongly to ensure the game ended in a draw.

In Division One, Hadleigh & Thundersley’s intriguing looking home clash with Billericay was abandoned without a single ball being bowled.

The match was called off on Friday afternoon due to the wet weather and saw both teams picking up six points each.

However, Orsett & Thurrock’s game got the go ahead and ended in a draw against Harlow.

Harlow were put into bat after losing the toss and ended their innings on 206/6.

Joseph Mitchell, with 3-36, was the pick of Orsett’s bowlers before the hosts dug in to secure a draw as they ended on 177/9.

Opener Umaad Sultan top scored with 36 while Nawaz Ahmad Jan added 31 and Agha Tahir a crucial 32 not out.

Also in Division One, Belhus were beaten by four wickets against Harold Wood.

Belhus made 179/6 in their innings with Danny Joyce scoring 56 and Ryan Wells 37 before Harold Wood reached the required total for the loss of six wickets.

Matt Doran, with 4-60, was the pick of Belhus’ bowlers.

This weekend sees Southend in action at Colchester, Billericay hosting South Woodford, Belhus head to Harlow, Orsett at Woodford and Hadleigh at Harold Wood.
