OLD Southendian & Southchurch and Basildon & Pitsea face off tomorrow in their biggest game of the season.

Both have been struggling at the foot of the Shepherd Neame Essex League Division Two table for much of this season.

Basildon are rock bottom and know anything but a win tomorrow could be a nail in their coffin.

The Old Boys secured a first win since May last weekend to climb out of the drop zone.

And a victory, combined with an Old Brentwoods defeat against second-placed Hainault & Clayhall, would make for a very good weekend for captain Matt Wilson.

“It is a huge game for us,” said Wilson.

“A win last Saturday has helped us massively and back-to-back wins would put us in a very good position.

“This week and last week were the two games we wanted to win, although last Saturday doesn’t mean a lot if we don’t win this one.

“A win coupled with an Old Brentwoods defeat would be excellent heading into the timed matches.

“We know a few of the Hainault guys and apparently it wasn’t the friendliest encounter last time against Old Brentwoods.

“So hopefully they can do a job on them and we would love a favour!

“Survival is the number one thing though and we need to focus on ourselves.”

Basildon’s only win of the season to date came in the reverse fixture, as they won by two wickets at Mopsies Park.

And Wilson said he expects more tomorrow.

“We didn’t perform as well as we should have done last time out against Basildon and I don’t expect to see a repeat of that display,” he added.

Southendian are boosted by the return of last season’s captain Aaron Lucas, with Rob Johnston also back.

Wickford travel to Fives & Heronians in a mid-table clash, looking to get their season back on track.

A fine mid-season run had put Wickford in with an outside shot of challenging the top two, but a recent dip in form has ended those hopes.

Defeat to Horndon-on-the-Hill last weekend means they are now 60 points off the pace, although just two behind tomorrow’s opponents.

Horndon leapfrogged Wickford with that victory to climb into fourth, but could find themselves below them once again if they are beaten by table-topping Hutton.

Hutton have lost just once in 13 games this season, can Horndon upset the odds tomorrow?
