Hadleigh & Thundersley bounced back from their defeat to Upminster by putting hosts Harold Wood to the sword with a seven-wicket win.

Wood opted to bat after winning the toss but suffered a collapse after openers Raihan Hussain (27) and David Hollingsworth (30) had made promising starts.

A 43 from Kevin Gibson, batting at number seven, offered the hosts brief hope but once he perished, Harold Wood were quickly reduced to 162 all out.

Hadleigh skipper Adam Fleming took 3-26, Jarryd Blake 3-40, David Williams 2-20, Tim Lowes 1-20 and Joe Robbins 1-17 to bowl their hosts out in 48.3 overs.

Sam Rowe (7) was an early Hadleigh batting casualty and after Joe Robbins (26) fell Blake stepped up to the crease and hit an unbeaten 86.

With support from Fleming (31) and Dan Robbins (10no), Hadleigh replied with 165-3 in 21 overs to secure the win.

“We bowled and field well, and we got the job done with the bat in 20 overs, with our 165 including 24 fours and four sixes, so it mostly came in boundaries,” said skipper Fleming.

“They were not the best side we have faced so far but we contained them well and kept them under pressure.

“We were excellent in the field and it was nice to bounce back from defeat the previous week with a comprehensive victory.

“Jarryd was fantastic with the bat and he played a responsible innings which really demoralised them. I just stayed with him at the other end and enjoyed watching him.

“We were under no pressure and once we got over the 100 mark the result was never in doubt.”

Orsett’s hopes of getting their season back on track were foiled by hosts Upminster on Saturday.

Orsett put their hosts into bat and saw them reach a daunting 375-8 from their 50-over allocation.

The visitors were bowled out for 170 off 31.5 overs to give Upminster a 205-run win which lifted them to third place in the table, while Orsett are seventh.
