Hadleigh & Thundersley ensured history repeated itself when they defeated Fives & Heronians by three wickets.

Hadleigh have historically got results against Chigwell-based Fives and Saturday was no exception.

The visitors to The Paddock won the toss and put Fives into bat. Edward Buxton (47) anchored the early innings.

And Rahul Bhome’s 57 in the tail guided the hosts to 258-9 off their 50-over allocation.

Jarryd Blake (2-48), Adam Fleming (2-36) and Joe Robbins (2-35) led the attack, with Richard Revell and Adam Soilleux taking a wicket each.

Sam Rowe went for 15 but Robbins (63), Blake (34) and Michael Lewis Jnr (41) led the run chase.

Oliver Wagstaff (26) and Tom Phillippe (39no) then formed a useful partnership before Revell (10no) and Phillippe took Hadleigh to a winning 260-7 off 48.2 overs, with Ryan Cunningham taking 3-21 and Jonathan Kay 2-43.

“It was a really good win as Fives are a reasonably good side and it was always going to be a good win chasing down 260,” said Hadleigh & Thundersley captain Adam Fleming.

“It was one of those days when having strength and depth in bowling and batting in the side has won the game for us. I think that depth is going to be massive for us because we are not relying on one or two people.

“Joe Robbins hit his 50 off something like 25 balls and we were well ahead of the run rate. Their spinners slowed us down a bit but once their seamers came back we knocked off the runs.

“Oliver Wagstaff and Tom Phillippe formed a key partnership because they put on 50 to take us from 190 to 240.”

Orsett hosted Gidea Park & Romford and defeated their visitors by 24 runs.

Gidea Park put their hosts into bat and it looked like a good move as they fell to 55-4. But skipper Kevin Sargent (52), Jason Plom (18), R Turner (38) and George Gibbon (16) added valuable impetus before Orsett were bowled out for 182 in 47.5 overs, with Russ Collard taking 3-11 and Ejaz Khan 3-18.

Matthew Tarr (45) proved a sticky batsman for the Orsett attack, but only two other visiting batsmen got into the 20s before Gidea Park were bowled out for 158 in 47,1 overs.

Gibbon took 3-35, Mohammed Ahktar 2-33, Darron Polyblank 2-32 and Ryan Plom 1-17, but the real star was David Cracknell, who claimed 2-14 from 10 overs, five of which were maidens.
