Wickford and Belhus both continued their unbeaten start to the Division Two season with a third successive win at the weekend.

Belhus won at Basildon by 109 runs after mounting an impressive total of 350-4 before Basildon were skittled out for 241 in reply.

And Wickford’s win was also quite comprehensive as they saw off Westcliff by eight wickets.

Westcliff batted first at Chalkwell Park and scored 166 all out and that total never looked like troubling the visitors.

They therefore cruised to a comfortable win, posting 166 for the loss of just two wickets, largely thanks to N Uddin who hit 104 not out in 103 balls.

His impressive innings included 16 fours and one six to see Wickford home as Westcliff’s poor start to the season continued.

They have now lost all three of their matches so far and have sunk to the bottom of the table.

But it was a far better day for Leigh on Sea as they recorded their first victory of the current campaign, beating Stanford le Hope by eight wickets.

Stanford batted first after winning the toss and scored 135 all out.

Matthew Page top-scored for the home side with 44 not out, while Sean Elliot was the pick of Leigh’s bowlers as he took three wickets for the loss of 32 runs.

Andrew Villani, James Braithwaite and Joe Sexton also chipped in with two wickets each before Leigh passed the required total for the loss of two wickets.

Dean Waller led the way for Leigh with 44 not out and he was accompanied by Simon Burch, who ended up 29 not out.

Horndon on the Hill were also celebrating after they won by five wickets against Old Southendian & Southchurch at Southchurch Park.

Southendian batted first and scored 216-9 as their openers Adam Hunt (79 not out) and Iain McDonald (36) both impressed.

However, no other batsman made it past 19 and it was Thomas Moseley who did most of the damage with the ball for Horndon as he took 4-17.

The visitors then past the required total for the loss of five wickets as Kashif Nizami hit 73 and Mike Canavon scored 54.
