IT is not every footballer who can boast scoring a hat-trick in a cup final — but Jamie Orchard and Alfie Phillips will be cherishing their goals for years to come.

Orchard fired home four goals for Corringham Cosmos in their 6-1 Under-13 Arcadian Corporation Cup final victory.

And Mornington Boys player Phillips netted all three of the Canvey club’s goals as they defeated Runwell Hospital 3-1 in under-16 Southend & District Junior Sunday League final.

Runwell’s reply came from an own goal at Roots Hall as Mornington went on to lift the Prospects College Cup.

Sunday’s finals day started at 7.30am for the league management committee, with the first final kicking-off at 9.30am with Leigh Ramblers Blues facing Catholic United North in the Under-11 Roy Chaplin Memorial Cup.

Sam Lowe netted the only goal of the game as Ramblers won 1-0.

The Under-12 Malcolm Stockwell Memorial Cup also finished 1-0 following an equally close-fought match.

Albert Wilton grabbed the winner as Canvey-based Concord Rangers defeated Leigh Ramblers Blues.

The longest match of the day was the Under-15 Konica Minolta Cup final between Forest Glade Whites and Leigh Rockets Black.

With the score 1-1 the match went to penalties and the Rockets defeated their Billericay-based rivals 4-3 on spot-kicks.

The penultimate game was finished in normal time with Southend Manor Trojans defeating Hullbridge Sports 2-0. Goals from Kyle Trueman and Dan Walker secured the Under-14 Cup for Manor, which was sponsored by Trinity Youth Football Club.

The final match of the day started at 6.15pm, approximately 45 minutes behind schedule, and was the Under-13 Arcadian Corporation Cup final.

Benfleet Youth put up a brave fight before Corringham Cosmos secured the silverware with a 6-1 victory. Joshua Ihunde and Alfie Drum added to Orchard’s quartet of strikes, while Joe Critchell got Benfleet’s reply. “A great day was had by all, win or lose,” said league chairman Peter Harris.

“On behalf of all participating teams and the league management committee I would like to convey my thanks once again to Ron Martin and all of the Southend United staff who contributed to making our finals truly spectacular. “Special thanks also to all committee members in attendance because, quite simply, without their hard work and dedication our league simply wouldn’t operate in the fantastic way that it does.”
