John Coventry joy as East Thurrock end winless streak
11:40am Monday 23rd September 2013 in Non-league Football
EAST Thurrock United manager John Coventry was a happy man after seeing his side end a five-match winless streak with a 3-0 victory against Cray Wanderers at Rookery Hill.
Rocks could easily have secured a far more convincing triumph against the bottom-of-the-table visitors.
But Coventry was delighted just to have picked up the three points.
“We haven’t been going through the best of times lately so the win was a very welcome one,” said Coventry.
“No disrespect to Cray but they have some internal problems there at the moment and it showed with their performance.
“We could have been four or five up by half-time and we probably should’ve won by more but it’s still pleasing to have won.”
Rocks took the lead after just eight minutes when Kye Ruel outpaced the defence and squared for Leon McKenzie who smashed his shot past impressive Crays goalkeeper Andy Walker.
On the hour mark, Davie Bryant skipped through to round Walker and roll the ball home before substitute Grant Eagle completed the scoring in the last minute.
The victory pushed East Thurrock up to 11th in the table but boss Coventry is expecting a much tougher test when his team host 12th-placed Lowestoft tomorrow evening
