CONCORD Rangers played out a 1-1 draw at Maidstone United as they continue to prepare for the new season.

An equaliser from Jordan Chiedozie, who is on trial at the club, levelled the scores after Maidstone had opened the scoring in the first ten minutes.

The Beachboys put out a strong line-up, with some trialists on the bench for Danny Cowley to cast his eye over.

Concord have happy memories of the Gallagher Stadium, where they won the Ryman League Cup trophy two years ago, but they started sluggishly.

Maidstone started the better and deservedly took the lead after only eight minutes. A floated set piece that shouldn’t have caused any problems was diverted beyond Jamie Butler by the onrushing, and unmarked, Jack Harris.

Concord played their way back into the game, with new recruit Alex Woodyard and James White linking well in midfield. But it was the returning Ben Greenhalgh who had the best chance of the first half – shooting straight at Stones ‘keeper Lee Worgan when inside the box.

Concord introduced ex-Bournemouth forward Jordon Chiedozie and Nicky Cowley at the break with the former forcing a save after only two minutes of the restart.

The visitors continued to press and were rewarded shortly after. Looking to impress, Chiedozie timed his run perfectly to break free of the defence and slot past Worgan.

He was soon joined by ex-Chelmsford City man Bagasan Graham and Alex Teniola formerly of Tonbridge Angels, who are also on trial with the Beachboys, with the former forcing a good save out of the home keeper.

Concord ended the game the stronger but couldn’t force a winner. Their next match is at home to Southend United on Wednesday.
