DANNY Heale says he hopes his attacking full-backs can help inspire his team to a more free-flowing style of football this season.

Both Tambeson Eyong and Ashley Dumas have caught the eye in the first week of the season, for their attacking play down both flanks.

Eyong only joined the club in the summer from AFC Hornchurch, but he has been a revelation since signing, winning plaudits in the stands for his all-action displays down the right.

And Heale says, despite losing at East Thurrock United on Tuesday, his full-backs impact on the team cannot be underestimated.

“We want to encourage our full-backs to play as attacking a game as they possibly can,” said Heale. “They are a big part of our team and have fantastic fitness levels.

“Saying that it is all about finding a balance. When they bomb forward we need a holding player to sit and cover them when they make progress down the wing.

“Harrison Chatting does that well for us but we know as the weeks go on we will be able to cause more teams problems down the flanks and in other areas.”

The Gulls’ defeat at Rookery Hill on Tuesday was the fourth time in four years they had lost at the ground and was their fourth successive defeat to the Rocks.

Heale said he didn’t think it was so much a psychological hurdle for his team to overcome, as many members of the team were new additions.

He said: “I don’t think it is a problem for the team, but it is becoming a bit of a headache for me!

“We are already looking forward to Saturday now and need to forget about this loss.”
