JOHN Coventry says it is important East Thurrock United hit back from a poor run of form against Leiston tonight.

Coventry has watched his side take only two points from the last 15 available, having started the season with back-to-back wins.

And Rocks now face difficult trips to high-flying Leiston and Bognor Regis Town, who have struggled so far this term.

But Coventry is confident his side can cause Leiston problems tonight, although admits the weekend’s match at Bognor Regis could be more suited to Rocks’ style.

“Leiston will be there or there abouts this season I am sure of that. They look very good but we will do our best to give them a tough game. We played really well in the first half against Harrow and if we play like that we are confident of taking something.”

Rocks lost 3-1 to Harrow Borough on Saturday, although they produced some impressive first half football that wasn’t rewarded with a goal.

And Coventry said a change in Harrow tactics proved to be the difference in the second half.

“They knew if they tried to play football against us they would get beaten so they changed the game and did well because of it. They have the three points and I have none so fair play to them.”

The Rocks boss said he was also hopeful of taking some points against Bognor Regis Town on Saturday, having secured survival in the division against them on the final day last year.

“Bognor will suit us more as it’s a lovely pitch and they are more likely to let us play so I am hopeful of getting some points on the board come Sunday. We have good memories from the end of last year but we need to move past that and get some points.”

Coventry added returning striker Sam Higgins would be involved – despite a lack of match time so far this term.

“Sam had not played 90 minutes for Bromley in the league or pre-season so we need to work him back to fitness. He did well against Harrow and we look forward to seeing more from him.”
