Margate 4-2 Canvey Island
Ryman Premier
From Hartsdown Park
CANVEY Island were put to the sword by a clinical Margate side, as they conceded another four goals on their travels.
Danny Heale’s side have the second worse goal-difference in the division and handed a debut to goalkeeper Tim Brown, who joined on loan from West Ham United for the season last week. But the teenager was helpless to stop a rampant Margate for storming into a three goal lead before half-time.
But it was Canvey that started the game well. Harrison Chatting forced Tom Beadle into an early save before John Sands and Rio Bryan-Edwards came close.
It was Ishmail Kamara who threatened next but Margate scored with their first real opportunity. A good run from Luke Moore saw Barry Cogan free to slide home a goal on his debut and three minutes later it was 2-0.
Moore and Cogan combined well again and the unmarked Zac Attwood was free to head past Brown.
Attwood doubled his tally on the half-hour mark after some calamity defending from Kamara who, instead of clearing his lines from a corner, dallied on the ball and allowed the Margate forward to slide home.
The Gulls pulled a goal back after the break through marauding full-back Tambeson Eyong, when he drilled home from a tight angle.
Canvey almost got another back through captain Jay Curran but he missed and Margate then made the game safe with Charlie Allen scoring a delicate chip.
Kevin Dobinson grabbed a consolation in injury time from an Anthony Thomas free-kick but by then the damage was done.
Canvey Island: Brown, Eyong, Carter, Dobinson, Bryan-Edwards, Easterford, Chatting, Curran (Jones), Osobu (Agyakwa), Kamara (Thomas), Sand
