GLENN O’Hanlon says reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup would “mean everything” as Billericay Town gear up for their third-round qualifier tomorrow.

Town take on Weymouth, of the Southern Premier League, at New Lodge, as they look to bounce back from five league defeats in a row.

And O’Hanlon, who joined the club from Chelmsford City in the summer and has been a regular in Craig Edwards’ team this season, is hopeful Monday night’s 8-2 win against Great Wakering Rovers in the League Cup will be the turning point for Town.

“We are struggling because we are finding it difficult to get out of that losing mentality in the league,” said O’Hanlon. “A win will change that but we need to keep this cup run going as well.

“I love playing in the FA Cup. Whether in the qualifying rounds or the later rounds it is a fantastic achievement for anyone so we want to beat Weymouth and get closer to the first round.”

Mainly used as a right-back, O’Hanlon, 22, came through the ranks at Arsenal, playing for age groups ranging from under-8s to under-15s, before playing for Charlton Athletic and Stevenage.

And he is excited with Town’s new look strike force, with Jacob Cleaver, Liam Nash, Roman Michael-Percil and Kameron English coming into the squad.

“A lot of new players have come in this season,” said O’Hanlon. “But all the lads who played on Monday really impressed and that is exciting for the rest of us. Craig will always make the right decisions by his players and I hope the new boys fit in well.”

Despite the amount of incomings and outgoings, O’Hanlon has been part of a stable back four with George Beavan, Richard Halle and, either Ryan Scott or Stevie Sheehan.

And the defender says they, and club favourite Glenn Poole, have helped him settle in.

“All of the guys have been so much help,” he said. “They have played many games at this level so it’s great to learn from them.”

l Craig Edwards previously dubbed Weymouth favourites for tomorrow’s clash, and they sit in 4th position in the Southern Premier League, having won eight of their 12 games.

Striker Ricky Sappleton is expected to be fit for the clash, having come off the bench to score the winner against Raynes Park Vale, in the previous round.
