RYMAN LEAGUES: Canvey Island are aiming to get over their cup heartache when they play their first league match in three weeks against Leiston tomorrow.

The Gulls have been knocked out of both the FA Cup and the FA Trophy in the past two weeks, having lost both matches on replays, and face a tough test when the fifth placed Suffolk outfit visit the Prospects Stadium.

Canvey are 11th but have a game in hand over this weekend’s opponents.

“Leiston are a good side,” said Heale. “They have spent a bit of money this season and they are doing well so we know how hard it will be.

“But football is a funny old game and we haven’t been getting the rub of the green when we are playing well and vice versa. With a bit of lucky we will get a good result.”

Full backs Joe Carter (achilles) and Dan King (hamstring) went off injured at Leatherhead and are likely to miss the game, while Kevin Dobinson is also out.

Billericay Town have drawn their last three league games and are in for a tough test at Tonbridge Angels.

Angels sit two places below Town but have an impressive record at the Longmead Stadium, with the most home wins of any club outside the top seven.

But Craig Edwards has backed his side to pick up their first league win since September 6.

“This league is much of a muchness,” he said. “Everyone has a good chance against each other and that makes it so competitive.

“Tonbridge have done well at home and we know the dangers they will pose but we have prepared well and are confident of picking up a good result.”

Edwards confirmed Kameron English had left the club to join Harrow Borough and said his side were champing at the bit to record an overdue win in the league.

“We have been playing really well. I can’t believe we didn’t beat Met Police last week and there is good competition for places.”

In the Ryman North, Great Wakering Rovers will look to continue their good form at Bringtlingsea Regent.

Rovers have lost only one of their last six league outings, scoring an impressive ten goals in their last two matches.

Brightlingsea have two fewer points than their visitors this weekend, and have been on a difficult run with their last home win coming in the first weekend in October.
