Club centurion Richard Halle says a rejuvenated Billericay Town are enjoying going about their business quietly.

The Town captain has led his side on a five match unbeaten run in the league, including back-to-back wins to lift Craig Edwards’ side up to eighth in the Ryman Premier League.

This followed a run of five consecutive defeats and Halle, who made his 100th appearance for the club in last Saturday’s 2-1 triumph, says continuing the run at Grays Athletic is vital to their play-off ambitions.

“It was really important to get back to winning ways,” said Halle. “We were on a bad run but we picked up a few draws and now we are turning them into wins. We are proving to be a difficult side to beat again and it is important to have that mentality.

“It is down to hard work. We train twice a week and the boys put everything into the sessions and that is important.

“We have gone about our business quietly and that suits us. We just need to keep getting those points.”

Halle, 32, has been in good form in front of goal this year, having netted nine times and he said scoring on the landmark last weekend was very satisfying.

“I didn’t realise at the time that it was my 100th match for the club,” he said. “It was only when I got to the ground that someone told me and it was a good feeling.

“I tried not to think about it and it was great that I got the chance to score for the team. I hit the bar as well so could have had two! It was a lovely way to end the week.

“Not many people get the chance to represent one club 100 times and it means a lot to me.”

Town’s game against Enfield Town was postponed on Monday due to a waterlogged pitch, and Halle says they are focusing on Grays tomorrow.

“We were gutted that the Enfield game was called off,” he said. “A win would have taken us very close to the play-offs but we need to keep our focus and a win at Grays would push us closer to where we want to be.”

Halle was suspended for the first game of the season against Grays but he will lead the side out tomorrow.

“Grays are a good side,” he said. “Jody Brown has come in and done well for them. I think it will be a different game this time around but we look forward to it and are confident of doing well.”

Town have a fully-fit squad for the clash, with only Callum Dunne and George Beavan ruled out with long-term injuries.
