Harrow Borough 1-2 Billericay Town

TEN-man Billericay Town produced a resilient rearguard display to record a valuable win at Harrow Borough.

Town played more than 80 minutes a man lighter than their opponents but goals from Ricky Sappleton and a tenth of the season for captain Richard Halle secured the points for Craig Edwards side, who were good value for the win.

But it all started so badly for the away side. Gerald Acosa, making his first league start for Town, lunged into a tackle and was given his marching orders to Edwards’ immense frustration.

Teddy Nesbitt, a new recruit from Aveley was making his first appearance for with Ryan Scott carrying an injury and he impressed at the back, but it was a more familiar face that opened the scoring.

Powerful striker Sappleton bulldozed through with 25 minutes played to net his ninth goal of an injury interrupted campaign.

That lead last until the 40th minute when good link-up play freed Gregory Ngoyi and he made no mistake, burying an effort beyond Billy Lumley.

But Town were not deflated by the goal and came out fighting in the second half.

They won a penalty ten minutes after the break, to the disgust of the home fans after … Halle stepped up and convincingly restored Billericay’s lead.

And they didn’t look like giving up the advantage. Halle and Sheehan proved immovable at the back to see Billericay across the finish line and lift them up to 11th.
