Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 Billericay Town

From Champion Hill

Ryman Premier Division

BILLERICAY Town suffered their second defeat on the bounce as they went down to play-off rivals Dulwich Hamlet.

Despite a goal from Glenn Poole, which put the away side in the lead, two strikes handed the third-placed Hamlet the win in front of a bumper crowd of more than 1,100.

Craig Edwards’ men came into the game boosted by the return to fitness of long-term absentee Callum Dunne, who took his place on the bench.

Richard Halle was fit to start and, despite the absence of striker Ricky Sappleton, Town always looked a threat going forward, with Rowan Liburd looking to score for the fourth match in succession.

But Dulwich had won five on the bounce and were unbeaten in 10 games.

Former Town man Frazer Shaw shot wide tamely before Poole headed home the opener on the 30-minute mark.

But that lead didn’t last long, and former East Thurrock United man Luke Wanadio netted an equaliser on the stroke of half-time to send the home fans into raptures.

And it was Ashley Carew that had the last laugh, scoring what proved to be the winner on the hour mark to give the home side the points, and consolidate their play-off place.

Town are now seven points off the play-off positions.
