RYMAN ONE NORTH: Great Wakering Rovers and their manager Dan Trenkel will renew rivalries with his former club when they visit Burnham Ramblers tonight.

A host of the current Burnham crop have risen through the ranks at Rovers while a Rovers trio have connections with the league’s bottom side, including Trenkel himself.

He played for Ramblers in 2006 for just over a season, with Rovers assistant manager Gary Ansell playing for them a year later.

Rovers top scorer this term (12 goals) Jay Nash, also spent a month on loan at Burnham last campaign.

And Trenkel says he is looking forward to renewing rivalries with manager Bertie Brayley and first-team coach Enrico Tiritera, both of whom have spent time at Rovers.

“We go into the Burnham game with our tails up.

“I expect it will be a very tough game against a team I don’t expect will play as their position suggests.

“I’m certain they will raise their game at least 10 to 20 per cent at least because they are playing against us.

“Enrico going there has obviously made them a bit more organised, but if we are at the races then I expect us to win.”

Ramblers boast a hoard of former Rovers players, including Dave Collins, Lee Scott, Grant Khory-Davinson, Marc Gorbell, Stuart Judd, Bradley Walsh and Scott Keys.

Rovers came back to equalise in the 97th minute against Thurrock on Saturday, and Trenkel said his that result showed how far his side had come this term.

“On the balance of play a draw was probably the right result. Thurrock had three or four good chances in the first half and we had much the better of the second half.

“Earlier in the season I think we would have lost that type of game but the players have shown tremendous spirit to recover from conceding in the 88th minute to go again and grab another goal, and I think it shows how we’ve developed as a team.”
