ROUND-UP: Concord Rangers know a win is paramount against basement club Staines Town tomorrow if they harbour realistic ambitions of reaching the play-offs.

The Beach Boys were one point outside the top five a week ago but back-to-back defeats has seen the Conference South minnows drop four points off Whitehawk in the final play-off position.

They now visit already relegated Staines as they bid to return to winning ways, although the bottom side have seen their fortunes turn in recent weeks.

Despite their relegation, Staines have lost only once of their last five matches, beating promotion favourites Bromley in the process.

However, it is at home that Staines have struggled, having taken only nine points from a possible 54 all season.

But Concord manager Danny Cowley, who scooped the manager of the month for March, admits the pressure if off his side, as it has been all season, as they prepare for the final season run-in.

“We have a chance,” he said. “If you had said at the start of the season we would have been in with a shout with three games to go we would have bitten your hand off.

“If we can win tomorrow we will put ourselves back in contention.”

In the Ryman Premier League, East Thurrock United will have to wait until Sunday to play Kingstonian as they aim to end their season on a high.

Having been in and around the play-offs for much of the season John Coventry’s side now find themselves six points adrift of the top five with only three games remaining.

Consecutive defeats against Met Police and rivals Grays Athletic has left 11th-placed Rocks two points adrift of Kingstonian, who groundshare with AFC Wimbledon, but a win could re-ignite their promotion hopes, with many of the top sides dropping points in recent weeks.

Canvey Island play Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Ryman Premier League as they aim to be the best of the rest come the end of the season.

The top 14 sides have opened up an 11 point gap from the other nine sides, although the Gulls are not totally safe from the drop.

Five points above fourth-bottom side VCD Athletic, Danny Heale’s team know a win against Hampton, the team one place below them in the league would all but assure them of their Ryman Premier League status for another year.

Vice captain John Easterford returns from suspension, although skipper Jay Curran is a doubt with a hamstring injury.
