BILLERICAY Town vice-captain Glenn Poole says he has not given up hope of making the play-offs this season.

Town manager Craig Edwards told the Echo his side would not make the play-offs a fortnight ago after a run of three defeats in four games.

But Poole says he is determined to keep fighting until it is impossible for them to make the top five, with the New Lodge side eight points off the pace with three games remaining.

The 34-year-old has been an ever-present for Town this season and he is hoping he can keep that up, and keep the team’s play-off dream alive with a win tonight against Margate.

“As long as it is mathematically possible for us to do it we will keep fighting,” he said. “It is a going to be a big ask as we will have to win all our games and hope others slip up.

“Our league position doesn’t reflect how we have played this season but that is because there are so many teams within a few points of each other.

“Margate will be a tough game for us but we need to give it our all and try and stay in with a chance.”

Poole maintains this season has been a success, even if Town fail to make it into the top five, as they are still in with a chance of winning silverware.

Town play Concord Rangers in the Essex Senior Cup next Monday and the midfielder is looking forward to playing a part.

Poole was cup tied for Thurrock when they won the trophy 10 years ago.

“I have never won this trophy and I would love to lift it in my career,” said the former Brentford man. “I was cup-tied when I was at Thurrock so couldn’t play but we are all confident of getting a good result against a very good team.

“We are outsiders for the game but that doesn’t concern us. We have earned our place in the final and, although we have a young team, we want to go and get the win in front of what will be a good crowd.”
