Great Wakering Rovers 1-3 Brightlingsea Regent
From Burroughs Park
Ryman One North
GREAT Wakering Rovers lost their final home match of the season as two goals in two minutes took the game away from them against Brightlingsea Regent.
Rovers, who were assured of their position in the division earlier this month, were without top scorer Jay Nash for the encounter against a side who still have top five ambitions at the start of the afternoon.
But it was Rovers who made the early running and they deservedly took the lead on a sunny day in Great Wakering.
The goal arrived after only three minutes and it was John Bradley who grabbed it, breaking through to slot home for Dan Trenkel’s men.
Rovers came under pressure as the half wore on, with supporters’ player of the year Adam Seal having to be alert on a number of occasions between the posts.
The home side saw another effort come off the bar before Regent struck twice in quick succession after the half-time whistle.
Two goals from Oliver Canfer turned the game on its head and gave Regent the advantage.
Ben Newson added a late penalty for the visitors to polish off a successful afternoon for them.
In an unexpected boost for Rovers, Tom Ranger returned to the team as a half-time substitute, having seemingly been ruled out for the season only weeks ago.
Rovers can now hope to finish as the best of the rest, with the 14th placed side currently unable to catch the sides above them.
Great Wakering Rovers: Seal, Pugsley, Worrell, Sands, Hepburn, Skelton, Radley, Sparrow (Ranger), Slater (Skeels), Johnson, Bradley (Jacobs)
