Haringey Borough 1-4 Bowers & Pitsea
From Coles Park
Essex Senior League Cup
BOWERS & Pitsea beat league champions Haringey Borough 4-1 to set up an Essex Senior League cup final with Clapton next month.
Rob Small’s side had lost 3-2 at the same venue less than a fortnight ago and were keen to end a record-breaking season on a high.
But Bowers actually fell behind in Tuesday night’s clash, when Darrell Cox made it nine goals in two matches after only seven minutes.
But Bowers were not to be denied and equalised with 20 minutes on the clock – Vinny Durrant crossing for Rob Whitnell to crash home.
Two minutes later the game had been turned on its head and it was Whitnell again, this time heading home an Alfie Hinton centre.
Into the second-half, Bowers made it 3-1 when a Jamie Salmon free-kick got the slightest touch from the onrushing Luke Wilson.
And Lewis Manor made it 42 goals for the season with an hour played to increase the scoreline still further.
Martyn Guest made a fine triple save to keep Bowers’ three goal lead intact, and they missed a number of late chances to extend their lead.
Bowers will play Clapton at Burroughs Park, home of Great Wakering Rovers on Sunday, May 10 – kick-off 4pm.
They will be aiming to bounce back from their 9-1 drubbing in the final against Barkingside two years ago.
