TWO quick-fire Tony Stokes goals helped Concord Rangers to an impressive 5-0 win in their latest pre-season friendly against Ryman Division One North side Harlow Town.

Ben Greenhalgh got the ball rolling for the Beach Boys inside the opening minutes on Harlow’s 3G pitch before Stokes’ double midway through the first half.

The Concord skipper scored first from a corner and then with a neat finish after being put in the clear.

Lewis Taaffe scored from outside the box just before the hour mark and then the much-travelled Bertie Brayley wrapped things up late on.

Concord’s island rivals Canvey played out an entertaining 4-4 draw with Ryman One North side Aveley at the Prospects Stadium.

Lawrence Yiga opened the scoring for Danny Heale’s men with a diving header but the Millers levelled when Marcus Elliott capitalised on Richard Davies’ mistake Ozzy Adenji headed Canvey back in front after the restart only for Aveley to respond again through Liam Nash.

Nash, who has completed a permanent move to Aveley from Billericay this summer, netted a fine third when he robbed Davies, went through on goal and chipped Jake Larkins to make it 3-2 to the visitors.

John Easterford crashed home a header from Glenn Poole’s corner to level the score again before Dan Gilchrist netted what Canvey fans thought was the winner six minutes from time.

But Aveley wouldn’t roll over and just a minute later, Petrit Elbi beat the offside trap to score and make it 4-4.

East Thurrock United also scored four but were much tighter in defence as they beat Witham Town 4-1 in their first friendly of the season.

The returning Kris Newby scored twice against one of his former clubs while Tom Anderson and Harry Honesty got the other goals.

Great Wakering Rovers were beaten 2-1 by Ryman One South side Three Bridges in West Sussex.
