Farnborough 2–6 Canvey Island

Ryman Premier League

TAMBESON Eyong scored a terrific hat-trick to hand Canvey Island back-to-back wins and see them climb into the top half of the league.

The Gulls won 6-2 at lowly Farnborough, with Richard Halle, Martin Tuohy and Omarr Lawson also getting on the score sheet.

However, they almost got off to the worst possible start when Tom Broadbent curled a free-kick a goal, with Conor Gough making a splendid save to tip the effort onto the crossbar.

Eight minutes later, Eyong came close to opening his account but stopper Joe Tupper pushed it onto the upright in fine fashion.

The posts were taking a battering early on, with Dan Gilchrist next to see the frame of the goal rattled but the goal wasn’t long in coming.

Tuohy chased down a ball and was well tackled, but Eyong picked up a loose ball and finished it well.

Just 1-0 at the break, the second-period burst into life. Gough made a terrific save to keep the advantage at one and that proved significant as Halle cannoned home a header shortly afterwards.

Eyong got his second after following up his initial effort with a finish into the top corner, although 3- became 3-2 in the blink of an eye.

Lewis Collins and Tommy Wright pulled two goals back to leave the game on the edge but the two-goal advantage was restored when Eyong turned outside and drilled home off a defender.

Tuohy scored for the 11th time this season to make it 5-2 before Lawson scored his first goal for the club in injury-time.
