ALEX Stephenson scored deep into injury-time for Billericay to salvage a point against Enfield Town.

The young defender tapped home from close range to secure a second-half comeback for Billericay, after they had trailed 2-0 at half-time.

Teddy Nesbitt started the fightback midway through the half but it was Stephenson who grabbed the headlines late on.

Billericay were looking to extend their good league form, having exited two cup competitions in the last week, but they were travelling to an Enfield side in good form themselves.

Enfield had lost just two of the last 15 and won nine of the last 10 and it was the home team that took the initiative early on.

Bobby Devyne opened the scoring, after breaking through and rounding Jack Giddens to find the net.

Mike Fondop was looking for his first goal in four weeks, after hitting the back of the net eight times in his first six matches, and he almost provided an immediate response only for Nathan McDonald to block it behind.

But Billericay were struggling to deal with the lively Enfield strikers. Corey Whitely doubled the advantage midway through the half when he reached a Devyne cross ahead of Giddens and found the corner.

Billericay were still in the match and could consider themselves unfortunate to be two goals down. Tom Derry almost got one back before half-time but his goal bound effort was cleared off the line by Jandir da Cruz.

Craig Edwards was dealt a blow when his vice-captain George Beavan was withdrawn with an injury, with the battling defender playing through much of the first-half in pain.

Billericay did get the goal their play deserved thanks to Teddy Nesbitt, who has found a new lease of life in front of goal in recent weeks.

The winger slotted home after a loose ball fell into his path to make it five goals in five games.

Fondop hit the bar in the closing stages but there was still time for a dramatic twist.

Joe Ellul hit the bar with a header but Stephenson popped home the loose ball.
