THE PREVIEW: Canvey Island will be expected to take the points at bottom-of-the-table Lewes, but things have been far from rosy for the Gulls in recent months.

Danny Heale's side have won just two league games in the past three months and have slipped from first in the league to 12th, 14 points off the top. They lost last weekend’s match 4-0 to Hampton & Richmond Borough.

But they will be strong favourites to win tomorrow against rock-bottom Lewes.

The bottom four have been cut adrift, and Lewes are 16 points from safety meaning they already look dead-set to be relegated to the Ryman One North.

Canvey won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last year.

WHAT HE SAYS: Gulls boss Danny Heale said: “The result last week did not reflect well but we were up against a very good side who took their chances, and we weren’t able to do that.

“We have added centre-back Christian Mbulu, from Millwall, on a month’s loan as we are struggling defensively and I am looking to bring in another defender and a pacy forward player as well.

“Lewes are struggling but they have picked up a few results recently whereas we have found it difficult so we need to make sure we push on, as they might see this as a game they can get points from.

“It has been a case of one step forward and two steps back and that has to change.

“We need a run of form and have a run of games where we need to be picking up points.

“If we don’t get points from the next three or four games then something is wrong.”
