CRAIG Gillam has completed a remarkable turnaround and has decided to remain as Basildon United's manager.

The Bees boss had told his players he would be stepping down before his side's 4-2 victory over Stansted this evening, with Luca Frankis scoring twice, plus a Brad Warner strike and an own goal doing the damage.

It was understood that Gillam had quit after a disagreement with chairman Dave Maxwell but, after discussions with the committee that continued until midnight, he has now reversed his decision to leave.

Fans had reacted with dismay at the news that Gillam had resigned, after tonight's result took Basildon back to the top of the Essex Senior League and gave them their highest points total this millennium, despite it being only January.
